Reds target Morse in free agency

Michael Morse is the latest Giants player in the cross hairs of another club.

The right-handed outfielder who dabbles at first base is being targeted by Cincinnati Reds general manager Walt Jocketty.

Morse, 32, batted .279 in 131 games in 2014. In the postseason, he went 6-for-20 (.300) with a home run and five RBIs.

He missed almost all of September with a strained oblique that limited his role in the postseason.

Great American Ball Park has been kind to hitters over the years. The stadium surrendered the third-most long balls in the National League last season (165).

Jocketty also noted that Kansas City Royals outfielder Nori Aoki is also on the team’s radar.

The Giants signed Morse to a one-year, $6 million contract on Dec. 17, 2013.

In a press conference Thursday, general manager Brian Sabean said there wouldn’t be any internal negotiations until something was settled with free agent Pablo Sandoval.
