Police talk man out of 100-foot tree

Police in Pacifica spent two hours Saturday afternoon convincing an apparently intoxicated man to come down from a 100-foot-tall tree, police said.

Officers were called to Yellowstone Way at 1:13 p.m. when they received a report of a man in a tall tree bouncing on the branches. The man was behaving erratically and seemed to be under the influence of drugs.

Concerned for his safety, officers spent two hours negotiating for him to come down, police said.

Once he came down from the tree, 34-year-old Robert Hawkes of Pacifica was taken to a hospital for evaluation and then booked into jail in Redwood City on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
