SAN FRANCISCO — Gray skies and rain have done little to dampen the spirits of hundreds of thousands of San Francisco Giants fans, gathered to celebrate their World Series champion heroes in a Market Street parade.
Fans packed several rows deep, crammed against police barricades on Market Street a full hour before the parade started at noon.
Orange and Black-wearing fans gathered in open windows in the Flood Building at Powell and Market, even scurrying across rooftops and leaning over building parapets to catch a glimpse of their heroes as the approached.
Giants fan Mark Linn, 40, from Danville, told SFBay:
“It’s raining on our parade, but it’s all about solidarity. Everyone’s together. We all love the Giants.”
Halloween brought out fans in team colors and creative costumes. Alex Yassine, 27, from Rohnert Park, turned up as a famous Giants fan from years past:
“I’m dressed as a hippie, dressed as Jerry Garcia. … It feels awesome to be enjoying the scene. I was here for the last parade in 2012. It’s worth it to be out in the rain.”
Christian Neville, a manager with Morrison & Foerster, was soaking in her third Giants parade:
“It’s magical to be out here right now. I’ve been in the parade in 2010 and 2012. I’ve been a Giants fan since I was a kid, but I grew up on the Big Island, Hawaii. I wanted to see Panda, Pence, Posey and Ishikawa coz ‘hapas rule.'”
Oakland police graduated 35 new officers Friday at a ceremony at the Scottish Rite Center.
The Contra Costa District Attorney filed felony charges against CHP officer Sean Harrington.
CITY HALL — It may have rained on their parade, but Giants fans showed up in droves.
