Search resumes for missing Point Reyes swimmer

Authorities resumed the search this morning for a swimmer who disappeared while crossing the mouth of Drakes Estero in the Point Reyes National Seashore on Monday afternoon.

Three individuals successfully crossed the Drakes Estero while the tide was out around 2 p.m. Monday, Point Reyes National Seashore spokesman John Dell’Osso said. The missing man, who is in his early 20s, was lost while swimming against the tide on the return trip.

The group was part of a family outing, Dell’Osso said.

Crews from the National Park Service, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, the Marin County Fire Department, the Southern Marin Fire Protection District and the U.S. Coast Guard suspended their search for the swimmer after sunset Monday.

Two dive teams using jet skis resumed the search this morning and the Coast Guard will search by air when the fog lifts, Dell’Osso said.
