Teen fights off jogging trail attacker

Fairfield police are looking for a person who assaulted a 16-year-old girl as she was jogging Saturday. The girl had been on a walking trail near Oakbrook Drive in the community of Cordelia around 12:20 p.m., police said.

A white male around 18 years old with facial hair and a thin build asked the girl for directions then assaulted her and fled after she fought back, according to police. The girl ran home to notify police with the assistance of a relative.

The girl was not injured in the assault, police said.

Officers were dispatched to the area and called in a police K-9 unit and California Highway Patrol helicopter but were unable to find the suspect.

The suspect was last seen wearing a black shirt and gray sweatpants. Anyone with information is asked to call Fairfield police at (707) 428-7300.
