BART upgrade causes delays

BART riders can expect some minor delays and changes this weekend due to construction at the Daly City BART station.

Two platforms are closed at the Daly City station while crews conduct maintenance work and trains are single-tracking between the Balboa Park and Colma stations, according to transit agency officials.

In addition, trains coming from Dublin and Fremont will only go as far as the Mission/24th Street station, and passengers on these lines needing to go south of that station will have to transfer to the Pittsburg/Bay Point line.

Riders making this transfer should allow for an extra 20 to 25 minutes for travel, BART officials said. The maintenance work is expected to continue through Sunday.

Transit agency officials say crews are completing as much maintenance work and station upgrades as possible this weekend in order to minimize future impacts to BART riders.

“The idea is to get in and out, in a safe, pre-planned way, with the maximum amount of maintenance resources,” said Paul Oversier, BART’s assistant general manager of operations.

“This will allow us to get as much work done, on as much equipment and infrastructure as possible while minimizing the number of times that BART customers are inconvenienced,” he said.

BART riders can find up-to-date information about service changes or delays at www.bart.gov/advisories or by calling 511.
