An 18-year-old woman shot and killed by a San Mateo County sheriff’s deputy in a coastside housing complex Tuesday night has been identified as Yanira Serrano-Garcia of Half Moon Bay, according to the San Mateo County coroner’s office.
San Mateo County sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Rosenblatt said deputies responded at about 9:20 p.m. to a report of a violent female who was possibly armed at the Moonridge housing complex on Miramontes Point Road, located east of state Highway 1 near Half Moon Bay.
Rosenblatt said the deputy confronted the woman and, fearing for his life, shot at her.
The woman, later identified as Serrano-Garcia, was struck by the gunfire and was pronounced dead at the scene.
No deputies were injured in the incident.
A joint investigation by San Mateo County’s sheriff’s office and district attorney’s office is underway into the shooting of Serrano-Garcia.
