Suspect shot in Marina accused of killing mom

UPDATE 8:02 p.m. KTVU-TV reports the arrested man, Carlos Aldana, 22, stands accused of shooting his mother, 44-year-old Rosa Aldana.

An armed suspect wanted for a fatal stabbing in Marin City is at San Francisco General Hospital after being shot by police in The City’s Marina District.

The chaotic night began around 11 p.m. Friday night when authorities received a phone call from a person who had returned home to find a blood-soaked living room, said Lt. Jamie Scardina of the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.

When officers arrived at the apartment on Cole Drive near Drake Avenue, they found a 44-year-old woman in a bedroom with multiple stab  wounds.

The woman —whose identity has not been released — was pronounced dead at the scene.

Around the same time, California Highway Patrol was investigating a report about a man who got on a Golden Gate Transit bus in Marin City covered in blood and carrying a knife.

The bus traveled on U.S. Highway 101 toward’s San Francisco’s Marina District, where U.S. Park Police officers were waiting to intercept  it at Fillmore and Chestnut streets.

When officers spotted the suspect getting off the bus, he threatened officers with his knife, police say. The suspect was then shot several times by officers, said Scardina.

The suspect was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where he remained in serious but stable condition Saturday morning, said Scardina.

The relationship between the suspect and the victim is still unknown.
