Peter Shih, SF’s most hated man, says, ‘I’m sorry’

After severe backlash on Twitter and the web, startup tech guy Peter Shih apologized Saturday to the citizens of San Francisco for the “idiotic and childish” blog post in which he shat all over our beloved city.

Simply titled “I’m Sorry,” the entrepreneur  published a remorseful apology that admitted to his “hurtful and offensive” comments about The City, its women, homeless and poor.

Shih wrote on his blog:

“There are no excuses for my poor judgment, so I make none. I take full responsibility that this mistake was completely my own.”

The ruckus began on Thursday, when the co-founder of Airbrite and Celery aired his gripes about The City in a piece called “10 Things I Hate About You: San Francisco Edition.”

In his post, published on social platform Medium, Shih complained about Muni, Karl the Fog and ugly women who act like babes.

Shih also noted San Francisco should take some cues from “real” cities like New York City, Hong Kong or London.

Here are a few pearls from the original post.

Shih on the weather:

“I hate how the weather here is like a woman who is constantly PMSing. I hate how I can’t tell the difference between August and February. I hate how I have to turn on the heater in the middle of summer. I hate having to always carry a jacket because of the 20 degree swings between day and night.”

And now, the 49ers:

“No, not the football team, they’re great. I’m referring to all the girls who are obviously 4’s and behave like they are 9’s. Just because San Francisco has the worst Female to Male ratio in the known universe doesn’t give you the right to be a bitch all the time.”

Finally, on crime:

“The difference between crime in SF versus crime in NYC is that the areas in which it happens are in much closer proximity to where normal upstanding citizens frequently travel. Imagine taking The Bronx and just having it take a shit in the middle of Manhattan, that’s kinda what the Tenderloin is like all the time.”

It wasn’t long before proud San Franciscans responded to Shih’s rant.

Signs calling to protest Shih’s company were posted in SOMA Friday morning, and on Twitter, people were outraged.

After the initial wave of negative feedback, Shih edited his statements and posted a disclaimer that his post was supposed to be a satirical opinion piece.

However, it was clear few were laughing.

“Hate all you want,” he wrote, “but please stop bringing my company into this.”

Shortly after, Shih deleted the post altogether — but not before the Internet screen-captured the original offensive tirade.

Meanwhile, it seems Shih knows it will be an uphill battle to restore his reputation in our fair city. He wrote in his apology:

“I don’t deserve any forgiveness for the stupidity of my actions and words, but I sincerely hope to demonstrate by my future behavior to humbly build up and not tear down the communities and people around me.”
