SF Bulls beef up with fresh talent

The San Francisco Bulls’ roster for 2013-2014 is still in the works, but we’re getting an idea of some of the guys we will see on the ice this season.

In addition to a couple of returning favorites, the team has also announced the acquisition of a few new faces over the offseason.

Here’s a look at some new players who will be sporting Bulls sweaters this October:

Luke Judson: According to his Twitter, Judson is a self-proclaimed “average hockey player.”

But with a resume boasting multiple seasons as captain in the Ontario Hockey League, we believe we will be seeing some above-average play from the 22-year-old rookie this upcoming season.

Forward Judson is entering his first season of pro hockey following five seasons with the Belleville Bulls in the OHL; he served those last three seasons as the team’s captain. He registered 167 points (87 goals, 80 assists) and 266 penalty minutes in 267 games played with Belleville.

Daniel Maggio: A deal earlier this off-season that sent defenseman Simon Danis-Pepin to the Fort Wayne Komets was completed last week with the acquisition of Maggio.

In addition to playing for Fort Wayne, Maggio played 26 games in the AHL, logging four points (1 goal, 3 assists) during his time with the Lake Erie Monsters and Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

Bulls head coach Pat Curcio calls Maggio a “tough, shut-down defenseman.” Maggio previously played 284 games in the OHL with various teams, totaling 100 points (25 goals, 75 assists) and 491 penalty minutes.

The 22-year-old was drafted in the sixth round of 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Rangers.

Josh Kidd: Defenseman Kidd comes to San Francisco following four seasons playing at the University of New Brunswick. But this isn’t the 24-year-olds first time in the pros.

After being drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2007 Entry Draft, Kidd spent parts of the next two seasons playing in the AHL for the Manchester Monarchs, where he registered 10 points (2 goals, 8 assists) in 42 games.

He also played four seasons in the OHL, totaling 50 points (18 goals, 32 assists) and 229 penalty minutes in 232 games with the Erie Otters.

Kidd totaled 26 points (7 goals, 19 assists) in 72 games at University of New Brunswick, helping the team to the Canadian Interuniversity Sport University Cup.

Tyler Beskorowany: If this name looks familiar, it’s because the Bulls faced the goalkeeper last season when he played between the pipes for the Idaho Steelheads.

You may remember his performance in a March 27 tilt at the Cow Palace in which both the Bulls and Steelheads were kept scoreless through regulation due to incredible performances by SF’s Travis Fullerton and Beskorowany. Idaho would win that game 1-0 in overtime.

Beskorowany went 17-12-3 with a 2.78 goals-against average and .911 save percentage with Idaho, who were beat out by the Stockton Thunder for a spot in the Kelly Cup Finals.

You can get your first look at this crop of new players at the Bulls two pre-season matches October 10 and 12 at the Cow Palace. For schedule and ticket info, please visit sfbulls.com.
