Heavy gusts knock out power in Bay Area

Last night’s gusty winds blew out the power for thousands of customers in Marin County.

According to a report by the Silicon Valley Mercury News, as of 7 a.m., approximately 12,000 customers in the Bay Area are without power. The Marin IJ reported that 800 residents were still being affected by the power outage at 7:30 a.m. Utility workers are attempting to restore power to customers while firefighters clear toppled trees.

Silicon Valley Mercury News says that winds topped speeds of 75 miles per hour in San Francisco and the Marin Independent Journal stated that winds reached 65 miles per hour in Point Reyes.

At one time 14,000 Bay Area residents experienced the power outage, according to PG&E. The winds left 11,000 customers without power in the peninsula and 830 in the East Bay.

The National Weather Service predicts the rest of the day to be 65 degrees with winds reaching 38 miles per hour in San Francisco with warm weather to move in for the rest of the week.
