Japantown shooting is City’s 2nd 2013 homicide

Barely three weeks into the new year, San Francisco police are investigating The City’s second homicide.

On Saturday evening, a 26-year-old man was shot and killed while driving in Japantown near Fillmore and Geary streets. According to police, at around 5:30 p.m. a gunman fired several shots at the man before his car crashed into a parked vehicle.

The suspect, still at large, ran into a white or silver car and fled.

The victim, whose identity is unreleased, was rushed to San Francisco General Hospital at 5:56 p.m.. He was pronounced dead at 6:15 p.m.

Officer Gordon Shyy told SFGate they have no suspect description, though Bay City News described the shooter as a black male wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt.

Saturday’s shooting is The City’s second homicide of 2013 — the first was a Bayview neck stabbing of a 30-year-old male just hours into New Year’s Day.

Anyone with information on yesterday’s shooting is encouraged to call the Police Department’s anonymous tip line at 415-575-4444 or text TIP411.
