Barely three weeks into the new year, San Francisco police are investigating The City’s second homicide.
On Saturday evening, a 26-year-old man was shot and killed while driving in Japantown near Fillmore and Geary streets. According to police, at around 5:30 p.m. a gunman fired several shots at the man before his car crashed into a parked vehicle.
The suspect, still at large, ran into a white or silver car and fled.
The victim, whose identity is unreleased, was rushed to San Francisco General Hospital at 5:56 p.m.. He was pronounced dead at 6:15 p.m.
Officer Gordon Shyy told SFGate they have no suspect description, though Bay City News described the shooter as a black male wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt.
Saturday’s shooting is The City’s second homicide of 2013 — the first was a Bayview neck stabbing of a 30-year-old male just hours into New Year’s Day.
