Vogelsong to pitch in World Baseball Classic

For those of you pretty people in Giants Nation absolutely positively you’re going to have a stroke and not make it through the next couple of months without baseball, you’re in luck: The World Baseball Classic is set to invade San Francisco on March 8.

Not going to be satisfied unless members of your World Series Champion pitching squad are there?

Fear not! The rally enchiladas are headed back to town.

Sports outlets were aflutter Monday morning as they reported Ryan Vogelsong has been elected to the starting rotation for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic, set to kick off — where else? — at AT&T Park.

And how could anyone deny The Bull such an honor? He had a career-topping 14-9 season and pitched a 3.37 ERA to boot.

Vogie will be the only Giant represented on Team USA, Yardbarker.com reports.

This isn’t to say that other members of the World Champ squad won’t be present. Third baseman and World Series MVP Pablo Sandoval will play for his native Venezuela. Second baseman and NLCS MVP Marco Scutaro represented Venezuela in the 2006 WBC, although there it has yet to be reported if he will rejoin the tournament this time around.

And no, we still don’t know if league MVP Buster Posey will choose to play in the Classic. However, SFGiants.com reports that manager Bruce Bochy would support Posey playing in the tournament, should he choose to.
