Antioch rooftop pursuit turns fatal

What started out as Antioch police responding to a domestic violence disturbance turned into a wild chase late Monday night that culminated with the shooting and killing of a suspect who pointed a gun at them, authorities said.

Police said the man tried to escape by car after they arrived at Sycamore Drive. A two-mile chase led the officers to Wainfleet Court, where the suspect ran through several backyards before climbing up on the roof of Antioch resident Chris Green’s house.

Green told KGO-TV he was watching television in his room when he heard gunshots and immediately hit the ground:

“…it was 15-16 gunshots and I was like ‘whoa.’”

Green’s brother Elijah was startled by the gunfire, especially since it was so close:

“I didn’t know what to do. It was just shocking that it was on my roof and I heard the gunshots.”

Although investigators haven’t said whether or not the man fired at officers, Chris Green believes he did:

“Because it was boom, boom (and) then it went pow, pow, pow, pow, pow, pow.”

The Green brothers did not see the man who was killed on their roof. Even though they didn’t know him, Chris Green believes the man’s death was sad because:

“…that’s somebody’s dad or uncle and at the end of the day, he’s not coming home.”

Police have yet to identify the suspect, let alone, confirm if he opened fire on them. However, they did confirm that the child abandoned in the car was safe.
