This Week In Orange: Perfection, duh

What a week we’ve just had Giants fans!

For any of you that were buried at work or living under a rock, June 13, 2012 is now an important date in Giants history, thanks to a handful of homeruns, a sliding catch in center, a catcher with all the right calls, and a guy we have grown to call The Horse.

Little fun fact about that pitching performance: Cainer threw the most pitches (125) ever in a perfect game.

But Matt Cain’s perfecto — believe it or not — wasn’t the only super sweet sight to behold this week for our Giants (36-28).

So in typical This-Week-In-Orange fashion, pull up a stool and pour yourself some home-made margaritas, and we’ll take a look at this past week and what the weekend has in store:

Big Country’s first bomb: Team SFBay was live and in-person on Tuesday, as Matt Cain’s “protege” Madison Bumgarner hit his first major league career homerun. Then followed it up with 12 strikeouts.

Baby Giraffe’s turn-around: Doesn’t look like my man Bibbles — yes, I call Brandon Belt Bibbles — will be changing out those goofy neon-orange shoelaces any time soon. The kid has a HR in three consecutive games.

Takin’ care of Great White & Posey: Being the classy guy that Matt Cain is, he has been quick to give lots of praise to the defense that played behind him in Wednesday night’s perfect game. He gives a huge amount of credit to catcher Buster Posey, and of course Gregor Blanco for his belly slide in the seventh inning to keep the Houston Astros hit-less.

The US Open effect: The Giants clubhouse certainly had golf fever this week, with Dustin Johnson and Rory McIlroy throwing out ceremonial first pitches. But we should really be tipping our hats to Brian Sabean, who gave Matt Cain the go-ahead to drive a couple balls into McCovey Cove before Wednesday’s game.

Cain’s new pre-game ritual? We don’t think it would hurt.

Looking ahead: The Orange and Black continues interleague play with a road series against the Seattle Mariners (26-38). Keeping our bats hot will be crucial, with Melky Cabrera getting back to his month-of-May prowess, and the newly-returned Pablo Sandoval getting those hard-to-catch base hits. If Belt wants to hit another couple HRs, that would be great too.

Ryan Vogelsong takes the mound tonight with a staggering 2.26 ERA, looking for his sixth consecutive win this season.

And as for my darling Timmy: Let’s hope that cold Seattle air works a little voodoo on that accuracy of his.

It’s supposed to be gorgeous this Father’s Day weekend by the Bay, sports fans. Kick back and enjoy the game with your old man.

A special shout-out to my Dad, with whom I will be drinking Eye of the Hawks while  listening to Jon Miller and Dave Fleming on the radio.

Peace, Love, and “Perfection, duh.”
