Serra Bowl hopes for another round

If you were a teen in San Francisco, chances are Serra Bowl in Daly City was the place you went to scope out hot dudes and dudettes, sneak in beers and bowl a few rounds in between plates of lumpia.

So the disappointment when the 51-year-old establishment closed last month was palpable amongst the thousands who have ever slipped a reluctant foot into a pair of those questionable navy and burgundy bowling shoes.

But now it looks like there may be a glimmer of light at the end of the lane.

Serra Bowl may be pulling a Sam Wo or Jay-Z. They may be coming back.

RichmondSFBlog got a tip that a representative of Serra Bowl was recently seen checking out the former Delano’s Market space on Geary Blvd and 28th Avenue. The space, which comes with a fairly good-sized parking lot, has been vacant since December 2010.

According to their Facebook page, the Serra Bowl people are indeed looking for a new space to make a triumphant return:

“Ok people. Here is your opportunity to help us out. We are looking for a building large enough to build a new Bowling Alley in the greater San Francisco area. … Please reply if you know of such a space available.”

No official word if the former Delano’s is in the running to house the bowling alley, but as an Outer Richmond resident, I say YES PLEASE!
