Brazen Muni robbery caught on video

When you’re on Muni and you have a backpack or purse, hold on tight. If you take your eyes off your stuff, there’s a good chance someone else’s eyes are all over it.

That’s exactly what happened on the 14 Mission a couple of weeks ago, and SFPD is asking for help in identifying the bold suspect in this video.

As Mr. striped hoodie was getting off the bus, it looks like he spotted a crime of opportunity. After scoping and then menacing his victim, police say the suspect grabbed a camera backpack carrying a lens, a flash and, as required by every photographer, a North Face jacket.

SFPD’s Mission Station website has clearer pictures of the suspect, along with other shots of robbery, theft and burglary suspects they need help identifying.

Last December, three men were arrested on the 38 Geary in connection with a pickpocketing witnessed by undercover officers. That didn’t stop reports of thefts on the same line coming in to Muni Diaries last month.

Basic rules of the street: Keep your head up and your eyes open. And see it before it sees you.
