Violent Mission rapes have police seeking help

Two violent rapes along the 24th Street corridor in the Mission have police asking for help from the public in identifying a suspect.

Both incidents occurred between 3 and 6 a.m., when the female victims were attacked from behind. After a struggle, both victims were sexually assaulted and robbed.

Separate messages circulated by SF Women Against Rape and the Fair Oaks Community Coalition were posted by MissionMission. Both paint a shocking picture of brutal violence, with reports of “broken necks” and the fire department being “called to wash blood off the sidewalk.”

In the most recent assault last Thursday, a woman was attacked on 24th Street and raped around the corner on Fair Oaks. The FOCC said that police have classifed this as a “very violent crime.”

The earlier incident, on November 18, was classified as an attempted murder and sexual assault. The victim was followed from 24th and South Van Ness to 24th and Potrero, then was taken by the suspect to somewhere nearby and beaten, strangled and raped.
