Droves of Christmas cosplayers and holiday revelers descended on San Francisco to kick-off SantaCon 2011 – the annual gathering and pub crawl where which thousands of dressed-up Santas invade city streets causing what is affectionately referred to as“Santarchy.”
Hundreds of North Pole refugees gathered and posed for pictures in front of SF City Hall at 1 p.m., but since then, they’ve been hittin’ the sauce.
A spokesperson from Lefty O’Doul’s at 333 Geary St. said some 400 Santas were already there before 2 p.m.
Even though they’ve been known to get a little rowdy, in our slumping economy, these Santas are welcomed at watering holes with open arms. “It’s always a great turnout and everybody’s always festive, happy and spending money,” said Tom Whalen, manager of Ace’s bar in the Tenderloin.
So, yeah, if you’ve ever wanted to buy Santa a beer for hooking you up with that dope Nintendo game when you were a kid, or even if your wish list includes the chance to see a belligerent Kris Kringle stumbling down the street reeking of booze and (hopefully not) bodily fluids, well, tonight is your night!
