‘Project Runway’ alum creates dining space for charity

For a smoking-hot supermodel, Heidi Klum is downright terrifying when she says auf wiedersehen to one of her many “Project Runway” victims. And what fan of the show didn’t fight back tears when she dismissed Season 8 doll-face Mondo Guerra?

But Guerra’s exit from the show was certainly not his exit from the spotlight, or any reason for him to shy away from giving back and doing good. Guerra—remembered as much for his gut-wrenching admission to being HIV-positive as he was for his design prowess—worked with design students at San Francisco State University to create a design space for Thursday night’s Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS 11th Annual Dining By Design.

Good deal for the ten student designers that aided Guerra in designing his fire-themed dining space. “The collaborative effort is one of the most fun things you can do as an artist,” Guerra said in an interview with the Bay Area Reporter.

Guerra is one of ten designers chosen to create a dining space for the Table Top & Taste event, which will serve as an eating area for benefit-goers.

This isn’t Guerra’s first benefit run. The designer tours the country with the initiative Living Positive By Design, a campaign which SF Weekly says promotes “healthy communication with doctors for better disease management.”

The Gala Dinner starts tonight at 6:30 at the Galleria at the San Francisco Design Center.
