Boston has their eyes on Beltran

Anyone else surprised that former Giant Carlos Beltran is on the lips of baseball GMs right now?

Me neither.

The veteran outfielder was a hot topic in Tuesday’s MLB managers’ meetings in Milwaukee, most notably by the Red Sox organization. Sports Illustrated has reported that Boston is offering Beltran a two-year contract, which would make him the replacement for the recently departed J.D. Drew.

One could see this as a tempting offer for Beltran. Despite mentioning that he would like to stay in the National League and that he—according to former agent Scott Boras—was open to staying in San Francisco, Beltran hasn’t voiced that he’s ruling out other offers.

That, and he dropped Boras as his agent a little over two weeks ago.

Beltran came to the Giants this passed July following five years with the Mets. He had 7 homeruns and 18 RBIs in the portion of the 2011 season that he spent in San Francisco.
