A man involved in a crash on the Bay Bridge Wednesday morning threatened to jump off the bridge immediately after the crash, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at 9:30 a.m. in the right westbound lanes of Interstate Highway 80 west of Treasure Island. Officers said the man got out of his vehicle after the crash, climbed over the bridge rail and stood on a three-inch ledge, threatening to jump.
The CHP dispatched an officer trained in crisis intervention techniques, and the officer was able to pull the man back over the railing and take him into custody.
Officers said there was a brief struggle during the incident. The man appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
He was transported to the hospital for evaluation and will be arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to the CHP.
