Vandals set fire to foliage along the perimeter of Taft School in Redwood City on Sunday and spray painted graffiti on a school building, according to police.
Redwood City police and firefighters responded to a fire at the school at 903 10th Ave. at 8:20 p.m., police said.
Firefighters found foliage along the west fence of the school on fire and quickly extinguished it, police said.
The fire destroyed a 15-foot section of foliage and charred the fence, but it caused no additional property damage, police said.
Inside the school ground, the word “Stay” had been spray painted in yellow on a school building, police said. The graffiti is possibly related to an earlier incident where vandals tagged the words, “Stay True,” police said.
The vandals also attempted to ignite several other sections of the school structure, police said.
Taft school serves students in Kindergarten through Fifth Grade and classes are scheduled to resume later this month.
Police are working to identify the suspects, who they believe are three boys ages 14 or 15.
Police urge anyone with information about the crime to contact the Redwood City Police Department at (650) 780-7100 or Detective Joe O’Gorman at (650) 780-7147.
