A wrong-way driver caused a multiple-vehicle collision on I-80 in Crockett early Sunday morning, leaving two dead and one injured.
The California Highway Patrol said a wrong-way driver traveling west in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 in Crockett near the Carquinez Bridge early Sunday caused a three-car crash that left two people dead.
Around 3:40 a.m., the wrong-way vehicle, a Honda SUV, crashed head-on into an eastbound Tesla Model 3 just west of Pomona Street. Moments later, a third vehicle, an eastbound Toyota Camry, struck the two vehicles, catching them on fire.
The driver of the Honda and the Tesla driver died at the scene. The driver of the Toyota suffered minor injuries.
The CHP said it’s unknown yet whether drugs and/or alcohol were a factor.
Anyone who may have witnessed this collision or who has other information is asked to contact Contra Costa CHP in Martinez at (925) 646-4980.
