Police seek suspect who assaulted three people in Chinatown Sunday

Oakland police are asking for help Thursday afternoon to identify a man suspected in three assaults in the city’s Chinatown.

A rise in assaults in Chinatown has police on alert.

The assaults, which took place last Sunday, were reported at 12:10 p.m. in the 800 block of Harrison Street, causing injuries to each person. A 91-year-old man was walking along Harrison Street when the suspect came up from behind and pushed the man to the ground, according to police.

The suspect also pushed a 60-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman to the ground from behind. The woman lost consciousness, police said. All three people were taken to a hospital for medical care, according to police.

Afterward, the suspect was seen running west on Ninth Street from Harrison Street.

Police describe the suspect as Black, 20 to 30 years old, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, and weighing 140 pounds.

He was wearing a light blue face mask, black hooded sweatshirt colored blue on the bottom half, tan pants and gray tennis shoes with light green soles.

Police are asking residents and business owners to check their video surveillance cameras to see if any images were captured of the suspect. Police said they have some footage of the assaults.

Police are encouraging community members to opt into the Police Department’s camera registry program.

Crime Stoppers of Oakland is offering $2,500 for information leading to an arrest in each assault, for a total of $7,500 in reward money.
