Oakland Unified School District is partnering with Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry’s nonprofit and other organizations to deliver meal and “family literacy” boxes to about 1,800 families Monday.
The deliveries are part of the “Christmas with the Currys” campaign by Stephen and his wife Ayesha Curry’s Eat. Play. Learn. Foundation is working with the school district, Salesforce and Revolution Foods to deliver meals, books and other items.
There are no “grab and go” meal pickups for students over winter break — three weeks’ worth of meals were distributed before the break — so the deliveries are via pre-arranged orders and include produce boxes and adult meals.
Superintendent Kyla Johnson-Trammell said in a news release:
“We’re grateful that we can continue to support our families over winter break. This is the most challenging winter break we have had in a very long time, especially for many in Oakland, and we are eager to deliver this food and the books to students and their families.”
