Family and supporters of Tyejaun Shepherd will hold a protest at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Martinez Detention Facility, 1000 Ward St. in Martinez “to demand that the County of Contra Costa release Tyejaun to an outside licensed public health facility immediately or release him to his family pending trial.”
Shepherd was arrested in October as the third suspect in a September shooting on Interstate Highway 80 in San Pablo that killed Kevin Santisteban of Richmond, a passenger in another vehicle.
Advocates say that the health of Shepherd has deteriorated significantly since entering the detention facility and that the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office has not responded to calls for a medical examination and treatment.
