Mission College ordered students and staff to shelter in place Monday after a man with a knife was spotted on the Santa Clara campus. The shelter order has since been lifted as of 2:03 p.m. but the suspect is still at large, according to campus officials.
The man was reportedly spotted at the college’s Gillmor Center around 1 p.m., according to the college’s campus police department.
The suspect is described as a white man in his 50s with curly gray hair, standing about 5 feet 8 inches tall. He was seen wearing a black and blue flannel shirt with clear circular glasses and brandishing a 3- to 4-inch knife.
An investigation into the man’s presence on the campus is ongoing, according to campus police.
Mission College officials said via Twitter that classes are resuming as usual, though they ask students and faculty to be on alert and to call police at 911 or 408-299-3233 if they see anything suspicious.
