San Francisco partygoers on New Year’s Eve through the early morning of New Year’s Day will have plenty of non-driving options to safely get home.
The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency will provide free Muni service starting at 8 p.m. New Year’s Eve through 5 a.m. New Year’s Day. Transit officials are reminding passengers to not tag their Clipper cards or pay for a ticket on the MuniMobile app during hours of free service.
Muni Owl bus service will also be doubled in frequency on several Muni lines.
The SFMTA said they will provide extra subway service from West Portal station to Fourth and King streets from 9 p.m. to 2:15 a.m. and from West Portal to Embarcadero station from 2:15 a.m. to 5 a.m.
The City is hosting its annual fireworks show along the Embarcadero and wants to ensure people attending the show and nearby parties make it home safely.
AC Transit, Caltrain and SamTrans are also providing free service for the holiday.
VTA is offering free rides beginning Saturday through New Year’s Eve as part of a revamp of its light rail and bus routes.
BART will not be free, but will run extended service after 8 p.m. to and from The City and the East Bay until 3 a.m.
To minimize overcrowding on certain BART station platforms, the transit agency will skip some stops into and out of San Francisco after 8 p.m. Further information regarding service limitations can be found on BART’s website.
