Contra Costa County Animal Services is offering discounted pet adoptions Friday and Saturday, according to county officials.
The cost to adopt any animal will be $5 and the reduced fee will include the adoption, micro-chipping, vaccination and spaying or neutering — services that usually run between $104 and $284.
The adoption event is sponsored by the Bissell Pet Foundation, which is helping with similar efforts at 110 shelters in 22 states, county officials said.
Cathy Bissell, the foundation’s founder said:
“To permanently end the homeless pet problem, everyone across the country needs to understand that there are beautiful, worthy animals in shelters who should be the first choice when brining a pet into your home.”
To take advantage of the discounted adoptions, people can visit the Contra Costa County Animal Services centers at 4800 Imhoff Place in Martinez or 910 San Pablo Ave. in Pinole.
People can also check out the available pets online by visiting www.ccasd.org.
