A power outage affected nearly 5,500 East Bay utility customers and several traffic signals Monday afternoon in Downtown Lafayette, according to police and PG&E.
The first outage affected roughly 3,500 customers starting around 3:05 p.m. Service was restored around 4:05 p.m.
Then a second outage started just before 4:20 p.m., but service was restored within about 20 minutes. That one affected more than 1,850 customers.
Other large outages have been reported around Orinda and Walnut Creek.
PG&E officials said information about the cause of the outages was not immediately available.
