Three people were killed in a wrong-way DUI crash early Friday morning near Watsonville, the California Highway Patrol reported.
A brown Chevrolet Malibu was traveling the wrong way southbound in a northbound lane of San Miguel Canyon Road north of Hambey Lane when it crashed into a white Chevrolet HHR traveling north in the same lane.
Three passengers of the Chevrolet HHR suffered major injuries from the impact and were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP. The driver of the car suffered serious injuries and was transported to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas.
The Monterey County coroner’s office will identify the victims once their family members are contacted. The CHP said it is unknown if the four occupants of the Chevrolet HHR were related.
The driver of the Chevrolet Malibu, 27-year-old Hilda Valencia Flores of Salinas, was also taken to Natividad Medical Center with major injuries. The CHP said she will be booked into jail on suspicion of DUI upon her release.
