Contra Costa County is seeking residents over the age of 18 who are U.S. citizens to serve a one-year term on the civil grand jury, which investigates local government agencies and school districts to provide independent oversight.
The individuals selected as grand jurors will serve from July 2019 to June 2020. County officials ask that applicants have reliable transportation to Martinez and be available to volunteer for roughly 20 hours per week.
The selection committee plans to interview about 75 applicants and roughly 30 are likely to be nominated. Of that group, 19 grand jurors will be selected in a random drawing.
Those chosen to serve will need to be available for orientation during the first two weeks of June, when new grand jurors will be meeting with outgoing grand jurors, touring government facilities and learning about their responsibilities.
The deadline to apply is March 22. Anyone interested can call (925) 608-2621 or go to http://www.cc-courts.org/grandjury.
