The San Francisco Public Library will again keep the lower level of its main branch open until 9 p.m. Sunday for patrons seeking respite from the smoky air. The library normally closes at 5 p.m.
The main branch is located at 100 Larkin St. in Civic Center Plaza. The library has been keeping the lower level accessible until 9 p.m. the past several days as air quality in the Bay Area remains unhealthy because of smoke from the Camp Fire in Butte County.
A winter Spare the Air Alert has been extended through Tuesday. The current forecast calls for the air quality to begin improving on Tuesday, remaining unhealthy for sensitive groups, before reaching moderate levels on Wednesday.
Wood burning is banned both indoors and outdoors during the Spare the Air Alert.
