Marin Mobile Care will display its mobile shower service program for homeless residents Thursday at four locations in Sausalito.
The event is a preview of a proposed six-month pilot program that will be considered by the Sausalito City Council in November. If approved, the free showers will be available in Sausalito two days a week for approximately three hours a day.
On Thursday, a mobile shower trailer will be on display at Marinship Park, 2234 Marinship Way from 1-2 p.m.; in the parking lot at 300 Locust St. from 2:15-2:45 p.m.; the 300 Turney Street boat ramp from 2:50-3:25 p.m. and Municipal Parking Lot 4 on Ensign Street from 3:30-4 p.m.
Marin Mobile Care is run by the non-profit Downtown Streets Team that seeks to end homelessness through the dignity of work. The shower program helps people rediscover their dignity and alleviates the day-to-day stress of being in survival mode.
Marin Mobile Care’s shower program staff also connects the homeless to resources such as mental health counseling, a bed for the night, medical care, food resources and employment and housing opportunities.
The city of Sausalito also has scheduled a public workshop about the program on Oct. 23 from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 420 Litho St.
The workshop will provide an overview of the upcoming mobile shower program and allow the public to ask questions. A mobile shower trailer will be on display in the City Hall parking lot at the workshop.
