San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee passed away early Tuesday morning in San Francisco, according to city officials.
In a statement Tuesday morning, officials from the mayor’s office said that Lee passed away at 1:11 a.m. at the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. Lee was 65 years old.
Family, friends and colleagues were at his side at the time of his passing, officials said. He is survived by his wife Anita and two daughters, Brianna and Tania.
According to city officials, in accordance with the city charter, Board of Supervisors President London Breed is Acting Mayor of San Francisco, effective immediately.
Officials from the mayor’s office will be available to the media at 3 a.m. at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital located at 1001 Potrero Ave. in San Francisco.
A second media availability with Acting Mayor London Breed and other city officials will be held today at 10 a.m. at City Hall.
