San Francisco’s Alamo Square Park is closed and the San Francisco Municipal Railway is re-routing service around the park as swarms of counter-protesters converged in the area.
The park has been fenced off and people are advised to avoid the area, according to Kristin Hogan, a spokeswoman for San Francisco’s Department of Emergency Management.
Muni is re-routing the 5-Fulton, the 21-Hayes, the 22-Fillmore and the 24-Divisadero around the neighborhood, according to the agency’s website.

Hogan said:
“No permits have been issued for Alamo Square Park and the park is closed as of 11 a.m. … There is an enhanced police presence around the park.”
Organizers associated with the Patriot Prayer rally that was scheduled for today at 2 p.m. in San Francisco’s Crissy Field abruptly cancelled the rally Friday, instead scheduling an unpermitted event in Alamo Square Park. They cited safety concerns.
At the time, state Sen. Scott Wiener, D-San Francisco, said he was “deeply concerned” the new location would lead to violence, “particularly given how close Alamo Square is to the counter-protest at Civic Center. As a matter of public safety, it cannot be allowed to happen,” Wiener said.
