49ers double ticket prices for Santa Clara

Niner fans, I hope you’ve been saving up for tickets when the team moves to Santa Clara.

Because the 49ers released ticket prices today, and they’re going to cost you an arm and a leg. And your car. And your firstborn.

Literally.

Seats in the upper deck, top-of-the-lower bowl, and end zones at the new Santa Clara stadium will cost twice what they currently do at Candlestick Park. Double.

But that’s not all. Season ticket holders will have to pay a one-time licensing fee on top of the much, much higher ticket prices.

The 49ers are trying to argue that “the new stadium will have much better sight-lines and amenities than Candlestick.” Many fans, though, are going to be squeezed by paying a $2,000 to $12,000 licensing fee on top of $850 to $2,000 for a single ticket to all ten home games.

That’s right. Upper deck, top row, minimum $85 dollars a game. After you throw down a couple grand.

The “little down payment” for season tickets is to raise funds for the Santa Clara Stadium Authority to pay back loans on the stadium’s construction.

This isn’t to say that there aren’t fans out there willing and able to throw down the dough for those seats. Multiple sections on the lower and club level— costing $20,000 to $80,000 a seat with full season ticket prices between $3,250 and $3,750 — have already sold out.

Supposedly, there are stadiums in the NFL that charge their fans even more for season tickets, and there are sections at the new stadium that will be cheaper than they are at Candlestick Point.

InsideBayArea reports that that a “very limited” number of single-game tickets will be sold, but it is expected that those tickets won’t be much cheaper.

One can only imagine what they’re going to try charging for beer.
