In what appears to be the first “revenge porn” case to be heard by a Napa County jury, Jose Arturo Gonzales was convicted of several crimes Monday, including one count of distributing an intimate image of a woman he briefly dated, according to prosecutors.
After a five-day trial, Gonzales, 38, was also convicted on charges of stalking, making criminal threats and dissuading a witness.
He faces up to five years and eight months in prison, according to the Napa County district attorney’s office.
Prosecutors say that Gonzalez was involved in a short-term relationship with the victim and when it ended, he stalked and threatened her using text messages and phone calls and by showing up unannounced at her work and home.
He also posted intimate photographs of her on social media sites as revenge for the breakup, according to the district attorney’s office.
Prosecutors say this appears to be the first time a revenge porn case has made it to a jury trial in Napa County.
Gonzales is being held without bail and is due back in court for sentencing on March 24.
