A Santa Rosa woman died Tuesday morning when she was struck by a truck while crossing a west Santa Rosa street during heavy rain, a police sergeant said.
Police responded around 5:35 a.m. to a collision between a vehicle and pedestrian at West Steele and Apple Valley lanes, Sgt. Summer Black said.
Rosa Montero Torres Alcala, 49, of Santa Rosa, was crossing West Steele Lane south in the east side crosswalk from Apple Valley Lane when she was struck by a 2014 Chevrolet pickup truck driving east on West Steele Lane, Black said.
The truck driver, a 33-year-old Santa Rosa man, remained at the scene and called 911, Black said.
Black said it was raining heavily and it was still dark when the collision occurred. The truck driver said he initially did not see Alcala and could not avoid hitting her, Black said.
The driver did not appear intoxicated or impaired and is cooperating with the investigation.
