One person was injured at a residential fire in east Novato Tuesday afternoon, a Novato Fire Protection District spokeswoman said.
The injured person sought treatment at a local hospital, but the extent of the injuries are not known, spokeswoman Sandy Wargo said.
Firefighters didn’t believe anyone was home when they arrived at the residence on Phillips Terrace, but a neighbor informed them the person left after an explosion was heard in the garage, Wargo said.
The fire destroyed the cluttered garage and damaged the back of the residence in Black Point near state Highway 37 and the Stone Tree Golf Club, Wargo said.
The fire was reported around 2:40 p.m. Several neighbors notified the fire district, and firefighters from Marinwood and San Rafael also responded.
Many of the homes in the hilly, heavily vegetated neighborhood with small streets have wood shake exteriors, but no other homes were threatened, Wargo said.
Firefighters expected to be at the scene for several hours of overhaul, Wargo said.
