Sonoma County sheriff's officials said a missing teen whose body was found on Wednesday in Rohnert Park was stabbed multiple times.
Sonoma County sheriff’s officials said today that a missing teen whose body was found on Wednesday in a shallow grave on the Sonoma State University campus in Rohnert Park was stabbed multiple times.
Kirk Kimberly’s body was found around 3 p.m. Wednesday, covered by dirt and debris roughly 200 yards west of parking lot “M.” The remains were identified using fingerprints. Kimberly, 18, from Cotati had been missing since Oct. 17, according to deputies.
Sheriff’s officials said detectives believe that Kimberly’s death was not a random act, but that it is not related to any other crimes.
Sheriff’s officials also said detectives have found no link to the university or its students except for where the body was found, which was in a secluded and isolated part of campus.
The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office took over the investigation at the request of campus police.
A pathologist from the county coroner’s office, an investigator with the district attorney’s office and violent crimes detectives spent hours unearthing the remains on Thursday, Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Spencer Crum said.
“There’s no time restraint,” Crum said.
The remains are “in the form of a body and are not just bones,” he said.
A landscaper found the body while removing brush. The landscaper first notified Sonoma State University police and the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety.
