A new eastbound on-ramp from San Francisco’s Treasure Island to the Bay Bridge opened Thursday, replacing a temporary on-ramp in place since the new eastern span opened in 2013, a bridge spokeswoman said.
The new on-ramp from Treasure Island toward Oakland opened shortly before noon Thursday, a day earlier than previously expected, bridge spokeswoman Leah Robinson-Leach said.
The new on-ramp is “longer and a much smoother transition” for drivers merging from the island and is also safer for drivers already on the bridge, Robinson-Leach said.
The temporary on-ramp will now be demolished, bridge officials said. The new eastern span of the Bay Bridge opened in September 2013.
