A pair of men allegedly jumped out of their car and beat a 22-year-old man with blunt weapons on Wednesday afternoon in Hercules, police said.
Officers responded to the assault, which police said did not result in more than minor injuries for the victim, at 3:22 p.m. Wednesday in the 2300 block of Redwood Road.
Officers gathered from a witness account that the incident began with a black Mercedes Benz driving on Redwood Road from Refugio Valley Road.
The car pulled to the side of the street, police said, by a man walking on the sidewalk.
Two men exited the vehicle and knocked the victim down, police said. They then unleashed a flurry of kicks and blunt-weapon blows on him, according to police.
Police said one suspect had a stick-like weapon and the other appeared to have a hammer.
They then returned to their vehicle and fled toward Sycamore Avenue, police said.
Police said the man suffered a few abrasions but refused medical treatment. He told police he had no familiarity with the suspects and did not know of a motive for the attack.
One suspect was described as a man with dark complexion who had an average build. Police said he was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, dark jeans and a black ski mask that only covered half his face.
The other suspect was a black man, also with an average build, wearing a white t-shirt, black jeans and a white bandana or the same half-sized ski mask as the first suspect.
Anyone with information relevant to this incident can reach the Hercules Police Department at (510) 799-8260.
