Officers arrested Marco Chamale, 25, of San Jose after he allegedly struck two cars and two pedestrians, including a 40-year-old San Jose man who died from his injuries, police said.
On Saturday, officers responded at 1:46 p.m. to the area of S. White Road and Mt. Vista Drive on a report of a hit-and-run collision. A preliminary investigation revealed Chamale was driving north in a 1999 Buick sedan on S. White Road when his car collided into another vehicle head-on, police said.
The occupants in the car suffered injuries not considered life threatening, police said.
Chamale continued to drive north on S. White Road, where police said the car continued onto the curb and a hit a food cart and two vendors.
Chamale again failed to stop and police said he turned east on Mt. Vista Drive, where he hit several fences and crashed into an unoccupied parked car.
Police arrested Chamale moments later, police said. He was transported to a local hospital and then booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, felony hit-and-run, and felony drunk driving charges.
The two food vendors were transported to an area hospital.
Police said one of the vendors suffered serious injuries. He died in the hospital today, police said.
It’s the seventh traffic fatality of the year, police said.
Anyone with information about the collision is urged to call the San Jose police at (408) 277-4654 or to leave an anonymous message with the Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers at (408) 947-STOP (7867).
