Starting January 20, the Fremont Police Department’s communications center will begin dispatching overnight calls for service in Union City from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. on a contract basis.
This arrangement will continue through mid-2016, according to Union City spokeswoman Lauren Sugayan, at which time the Fremont Police Department will take over dispatch services entirely for both cities.
Sugayan said there will be no impact to police services in either community, and both cities will save an estimated $400,000 per year in payroll expenses.
Union City residents can still call 911 to report emergencies, and other situations can be reported to the Union City Police Department’s non-emergency line at (510) 471-1365.
