Firefighters are still at the scene of a predawn Pittsburg church fire, where flames tore through the two-story building and caused a partial roof collapse.
Officials said the two-alarm fire was first reported around 2:45 a.m. at the fire at The Pentecostals of the Bay Area at 310 Central Ave. The roof had partially collapsed by 5:19 a.m.
Crews maintained defensive operations as the sun came up. The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District said shortly after 7 a.m. that the fire had made its way across a third of the building and continued to spread in concealed space between floors.
Firefighters are expected to remain at the scene for several hours.
In a video posted Friday morning on the church’s Facebook page, minister of praise Alex thanked people for their prayers and said, as translated from Spanish:
“Most of the building is totally collapsed.”
Despite rampant embers, the fire did not damage nearby structures and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
