Police investigate two San Jose homicides within 24 hours

San Jose just recorded its ninth and tenth homicides of 2022 less than 24 hours apart.

The most recent death stemmed from a double shooting incident in front of a San Jose State University student housing building on the 400 block of South 10th Street. The Police Department received a call about the shooting at 3:08 a.m. and responding officers found two victims, a male in critical condition and a female with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said via Twitter at 10:41 a.m. that the incident is now being investigated as a homicide.

A woman was also stabbed to death late Sunday morning. According to a police statement, officers responded at 11:20 a.m. to a report of a person down in the 5200 block of Vera Lane. The adult female victim was found with at least one stab wound and pronounced dead at the scene.

Neither victim has been publicly identified – the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office will release that information once they confirm identities and notify next of kin.

There have been no suspect arrests in either incident. Police say both motive and circumstance are being investigated in both cases.

Anyone with information about the fatal shooting and/or stabbing is asked to contact Detective Sergeant White (#4104) or Detective Reckas (#3440) of the San Jose Police Department’s Homicide Unit by phone at (408) 277-5283, or by email at 4104@sanjoseca.gov and/or 3440@sanjoseca.gov.
