Toyota driver killed in head-on collision with big rig

A car and a big rig collided head-on early Thursday morning on state Highway 4 in Contra Costa County killing the only occupant in the car, California Highway Patrol officials said.

The collision was reported to the CHP at 5:54 a.m. east of Balfour Road.

The driver of a silver Toyota Corolla was traveling east on Highway 4 when the Toyota crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with an International big rig.

The person in the Toyota died at the scene while the driver of the truck escaped injury.

The CHP is investigating the collision. Anyone who saw it or the events leading up to it is asked to please call the CHP at (925) 646-4980.
